Portrait wood engraving

This is a portrait of my son Jon when he was about 8 years old. I had taken my sons, Ben and Jon to Belsay Hall and I photographed Jon standing against the faded wallpaper of the Hall. He’s a bit older than this now!

This engraving is my first on boxwood and I have two people to thank for making this possible. The first is the visitor to Cherryburn who stayed to chat to Paul Goldsmith and I in the press room, long enough to promise to send us some boxwood. Some time later a cardboard parcel arrived full of boxwood. I took it to Chris Daunt, and some time later he surprised me with this piece made from 7 pieces of the boxwood glued together. As boxwood is so special I spent a bit of time looking at this wood before attempting to engrave it.
